Freeing Congregational Mission

Join authors (and Pittsburgh Presbytery members) Bala Khyllep and Hunter Farrell as they build on the learnings from their 2022 InterVarsity Press book, Freeing Congregational Mission, to explore ways leaders can help their congregations connect more deeply and mutually with their neighbors and with global partners. Bala and Hunter provide leadership to Pittsburgh Theological Seminary’s World Mission Initiative. The first session included a diverse group of congregational mission leaders reflecting on the challenges currently facing our congregations engaging in local and/or global mission. We traced the surprising relationship of Christian mission and race and proposed strategies to engage in mission in the way of Jesus Christ– not from a position of power or control, but as mission companions. Congregational mission leaders have a vital role to play in transforming their churches’ relationship with their community and hold a key role to shape their congregation’s understanding and practice of mission. The second session (no need to have participated in the first session) will empower mission leaders by providing specific strategies and tools to lead their congregation.
