2022 Coleman-Patrick Scholarship Recipients

Congratulations to the 2022 Coleman-Patrick Scholarship Recipients! The two recipients are: Mekkah Nared, attending Robert Morris University; and Kiara Nicole Rockymore, attending Seton Hill University. The Robert Coleman-Dr. Leroy Patrick Scholarship is annually awarded to undergraduate students of color who are recommended by their church pastor or the director of a validated mission agency of Pittsburgh Presbytery. Members of the Pittsburgh National Black Presbyterian Caucus express their thank-for-giving to all who contributed to the scholarship in support of this ministry.

BOP names Rev. Dr. Douglas Portz as Vice President, Church Relations

The Board of Pensions has named the Rev. Dr. Douglas Portz, a longtime servant of the denomination, to the position of Vice President, Church Relations. We extend our hearty congratulations to Doug, a minister member of Pittsburgh Presbytery currently serving on our COM, who has served seven years with the Board of Pensions and for decades in parish and mid council ministry. He will continue to be the Board of Pensions representative for Pittsburgh Presbytery.

Love Lets All Vote

Jesus commands us to love God and love our neighbors as ourselves, and he says, “just as you did it to one of the least of these … you did it to me.” Love and justice are essential in the Bible, and justice in America includes the right to vote. The Pittsburgh Presbytery voted in May to adopt a statement called “Citizens’ Right to Vote: A Call to Action,” which noted our church’s long history of supporting voting rights and urged us all to carry on this vital tradition.
