News from Pittsburgh Presbytery
Holy Week is a crash course in sitting with suffering. Sitting with Jesus during this week of suffering helps us sit better with others when they suffer. But is that really essential? What are we really missing if we just skip from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday? In this week’s meditation, Sitting with Suffering, Rev. Dr. Sheldon W. Sorge answers this question and more.
As part of the Presbytery’s effort to support our churches in this time of COVID-related challenges, the staff of Pittsburgh Presbytery will once again be providing virtual worship resources for our congregations for Holy Week (Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter). Each service will be made available as a downloadable file that you can choose to incorporate some or all of the elements into your congregation’s own worship service or simply direct people to a YouTube link where they can watch it themselves. The materials will be posted to the Presbytery website under Downloadable Worship Resources.
Is your congregation working to alleviate food insecurity in your community? This might be through a food pantry or other food providing service developed by your congregation. Perhaps you are partnering with another denomination or community organization to help the hungry? If so, the FEMA Emergency Food & Shelter Grant may support your work. Click “read more” for information on how to apply, links, and contacts.
Pittsburgh Presbytery is in search of a full time Administrative Assistant. The position is open immediately, and will be filled as soon as a suitable candidate is available. The ideal candidate will have a sense of vocation to serve the Lord, be familiar with the polity and workings of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), have excellent organizational and communications skills, and be experienced in website management. If you would like to explore the opportunity to join our team in the essential work of the Pittsburgh Presbytery, please write a letter of interest and send it with your resume to Sheldon Sorge.

The Synod of the Trinity is offering several spring opportunities for you to breathe, recalibrate and revision, moving ahead over what has been, and may still be, a long road. The vaccines offer a promising future even while continuing with masks and distancing.
A way forward, the promise of new wholeness – now and not yet.
As Christians, we understand that reality! It takes practice and attention to remain nimble and open to the Spirit as we go. We trust that you may find encouragement and tools to aid your walk and leadership in these offerings.
After getting some great feedback from you the PC(USA) Store has updated the At-Home Kit Guides that go with each of the Growing in God’s Love: A Story Bible Curriculum units. The units coming out in July will follow this new format as well. What they didn’t change is that each guide is still a customizable Word document and there is one guide for every unit. Check out the new format!
