The State of the Presbytery: Spring 2024 Edition

There is a lot going on in the life of Pittsburgh Presbytery, and we’re about a month away from the Presbytery meeting. So rather than wait for the Acting Head of Staff report at the May Presbytery meeting, Rev. Brian Wallace would like to take some time to update you on some of what has been happening in the life of our Presbytery.

May Pre-Presbytery Meeting: Racial Wealth Gap

Our Pre-Presbytery Event for May will be Bread for the World’s Racial Wealth Gap Simulation. It will take place before the May 23 Presbytery Meeting at the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, from 9:00am – 12:00pm. The simulation is an interactive experience for groups to understand how federal policies differently impacted Black and White communities. Working around tables, participants learn more about the impact of policies from Reconstruction to the present day, collecting and returning cards representing land, money, and lost opportunities.

May 4 Session Minutes Review

We have only had a few clerks of session sign up for the in person Session Minutes Review on Saturday, May 4. If you are planning on attending and haven’t registered, please do so by Tuesday, April 30. We may reschedule the review if there are not enough clerks registered to attend.

Civil Rights Pilgrimage Bus Tour

The Presbytery of Donegal is offering a Civil Rights Pilgrimage Bus Tour from October 19 – 26, 2024. The itinerary includes stops in Charlottesville, VA; Atlanta, GA; Montgomery, AL; and more. Bring a Bible to the Presbytery Meeting

The Matthew 25 Steering Committee of Pittsburgh Presbytery is asking each church in the presbytery to bring at least one Life Recovery Bible (NLT) to the May 23 presbytery meeting at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary for donation to the Allegheny County Jail. You can also donate the equivalent purchase price of $17. For an announcement you can share in worship in a bulletin or on a screen, click here. Gifts of Bibles and monetary offerings will be dedicated at the May meeting. Please note, only the paperback version of this Bible will be accepted.
