Leave Your Umbrella at Home: An Advent Shouting Match and the Faithfulness of God

In this week’s letter, Rev. Austin Shelley shares with us her sermon in written form that was delivered at the December presbytery meeting. In Leave Your Umbrella at Home, she encourages us to open ourselves so that God tears open not only the heavens but also our hearts for the sake of the gospel. What if, this Advent, instead of putting up our umbrellas, we agree to soak in the immense gifts God is already pouring out into this presbytery, into our churches, into our seminary, into our clinical settings, into our validated ministries, into our communities?

Presbyterian Women’s Churchwide Gathering

“Do everything in love,” based on 1 Cor. 16:13–14 (NIV), is the theme for the 2024 Churchwide Gathering of Presbyterian Women (CWG). The CWG will be held in St. Louis, Missouri, August 8–11. Presbyterian Women Churchwide’s Justice and Peace Committee has released their 2024 Book Discussion Guide. The list of six books includes The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot, Our Missing Hearts by Celeste Ng, and more. The discussions are held bimonthly on the second Monday from 6:30 – 8:30pm.
