New Confirmation Curriculum Available

A revised and updated confirmation curriculum focused on missional identity from Mark Hinds and the Presbyterian Outlook is now available. Changing the World addresses confirmation as joining the missional project entrusted to the church. The curriculum shifts the emphasis from increasing membership rolls to helping teenagers claim their missional identities and vocations.

Celebration Corner: Shanea Leonard is the Director of RE&WIM

Rev. Shanea Leonard, a member of our Pittsburgh Presbytery, was named the Director of the Racial Equity & Women’s Intercultural Ministries at the Presbyterian Mission Agency last October. One of their first moves has been to help create a new mission statement for RE&WIM:

“To equip, train, and build inclusive community that centers BIPOC, women, LGBTQIA+ siblings, and gender expansive people. We are called to ministry that values justice and equity while working to build vital congregations, eradicate poverty, and eliminate systemic racism.”

They are proud to represent our presbytery in the national offices.

Acting Stated Clerk of the General Assembly Named

The Committee on the Office of the General Assembly has announced that the Rev. Bronwen Boswell, currently General Presbyter/Stated Clerk of Shenandoah Presbytery, has been named Acting Stated Clerk of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). Rev. Boswell will serve until the election of a new stated clerk at the 226th General Assembly in Salt Lake City, Utah, next summer. She will fill the unexpired term of the Rev. Dr. J. Herbert Nelson, II, who recently announced his decision to step down at the end of June.

Care Partner Toolkit Webinar

A webinar is going to be offered this coming on August 17, 2023 at 1:00pm to discuss utilizing a new resource, the Care Partner Toolkit. It will be hosted by the Association of Partners in Christian Education (APCE) and the Presbyterian Older Adult Ministries Network (POAMN). Register to learn more about resources that are available to those in our congregations who are care partners.

Application for the Repair and Reconciliation Alliance

What are the stories of Black Presbyterian Churches in the Pittsburgh Presbytery? How have we failed as a Presbytery to love them as we love ourselves? How can we heal the breaches with our brothers and sisters in Christ? The Pittsburgh Presbytery created the Repair and Reconciliation Alliance to thoroughly review the historical experiences of these congregations and offer recommendations on actions of repair and reconciliation. Over the next two years, the Repair and Reconciliation Alliance needs various people to begin this task: leaders, researchers, writers, videographers, accountants, and more.
