MISSION

Our mission is to see every international student and visiting scholar befriended, led to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, and discipled for His service.


CURRENT PROGRAMS

Our program is intended to facilitate cross-cultural relationships between members of local churches and the international community of students and scholars that come to our region.  We do that through:

• Annual Garage Giveaway: This year 350 students from 16 countries attended this free event.
• Weekly Open House dinner: Each week a different church helps us serve a meal to students and to interact with students through discussion topics.
• Trips and Conferences: Students travel to various places to see the beauty of America, but also to experience the warmth and hospitality of a Christian host family.
• Friendship Partners: Students are matched with local Christian families or individuals for a once-a-month gathering.  In this way students gain exposure to American culture and American people can gain a greater understanding of their student’s culture.
• Classes: We offer English classes and cooking classes.
• Holiday Hosting: Students join and American family for a holiday meal and celebration.
• Church visits: Students visit local churches and join a family for lunch after church.
• Bible Studies: PRISM conducts approximately seven weekly Bible studies.  Some are investigative for seekers, others are for discipleship of Believers and also to prepare students for living out their faith upon return to their home country.

HISTORY

In response to Jesus' commandment that discipline should be made among all ethnic groups ("nations"), in 1980 PRISM began to meet the needs of international students/scholars residing in the Pittsburgh area, thereby hoping to earn the right to proclaim the message of the gospel among them.

We provide hosting opportunities, invitations to special services and church functions, and make furniture and clothing available.
