Freedom Rising Pilot Project

Freedom Rising Luncheon Invitation

This past summer, the 222nd General Assembly approved an overture from Pittsburgh Presbytery “… to address the worsening plights of the African American male”. In response, the Freedom Rising Pilot Project has begun its work in five cities (Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Charlotte, Baltimore, and New York City). The pilot project will include separate, locally discerned, and developed responses unique to each context.

On Thursday, February 16, prior to regular meeting of Pittsburgh Presbytery, there will be a luncheon in the dining hall of Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. We will gather at 11:00 AM to share food and fellowship as well as celebrate the passage of the overture, receive updates from the various agencies and presbyteries working on Freedom Rising, and to hear from Stated Clerk Rev. Dr. J. Herbert Nelson.

Reservations are required and must be made by Noon on Monday, February 13, to Rachel Shussett at the presbytery office. An offering will be received during the event to help cover the cost of lunch and further the work of Freedom Rising.
